Hawai'i Volcano National Park (Continued)

Hawaii Volcano National Park is definitely one park that I think everyone needs to see. The massive volcanos would be something amazing for anyone to see. Something really interesting you could see at this park other than these gigantic volcanoes happened when it erupted in 1790. Unfortunately a large group of warriors were killed by the eruption and many of them actually left footprints that you can see today on the ground. Since there are these large volcanoes one of the major attractions is hiking around and on them to get better views of them. You can sign up and go on tours with a tour guide and see everything. Like discussed in the last post there is at least one hotel you can stay at on the premises and many more located outside. Lastly the endangered Honu or Green Seaturtle is sometimes seen on the beach and is something that can be seen on rare occasion when visiting. This is definitely a park I have to see.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park

This weeks national park is a very different one than any we have talked about previously. Hawaii Volcanoes national park has two different volcanoes, Kīlauea and Mauna Loa. The park is over 500 square miles of land became its own park in the 1960's. Mauna Loa is the worlds largest and most active volcano in the entire world. The volcano is almost 4 miles high. The park started seeing tourists after two business men built hotels for people to visit and mad the volcanoes a huge icon and sight for people to see. The two volcanoes are over 70 miles long and 30 miles wide. That means this volcano is larger than the four smallest countries in the world even if they were all combined into one. The most recent explosion from either of these volcanoes was in March of 2008 and luckily it was a very small explosion. When your visiting this park be careful not to get too close just in case one of them does erupt!
